Did you know that children within 5 miles of the UNC campus go to bed hungry?  You can help by supporting TABLE.  This hunger-prevention program gives participating children loaner backpacks on Fridays that contain healthy food for the weekend.  On Mondays, they return the empty packs to be filled again.

TABLE is always on the look-out for "gently used" backpacks.  Please consider donating a used backpack, and if you wish, use the Food List below to fill it with a weekend's worth of groceries.  Start shopping now, & watch for more details about bringing the backpacks to church.  Questions?  Contact Terri Swanson ( ; 542-3126).

Backpack Food List

  • 2 cans of meat (tuna, chicken, Vienna sausage)
  • 2 cans of vegetables (corn, turnip greens, carrots, green beans)
  • 1 jar of peanut butter
  • 1 can of fruit or 1 pkg. of non-perishable fruit cups
  • 3 juice boxes - 100% juice
  • Box of breakfast cereal or pop tarts
  • 2 healthy snacks (low-fat granola bars, animal/graham crackers, raisins)
  • 2 noodle items (mac & cheese, ramen noodles OR 1 box of pasta & 1 can of spaghetti sauce OR 1 can of spaghetti or ravioli with meatballs)
  • Non-refrigerated chocolate milk boxes
